Design brings premium to humble CD-R
A visit to a lifestyle gift shop recently saw me discovering a new product, CD-Rs for occasions. These CD-Rs come in cute cartoon designs for typical giving occasions; birthdays, valentine surprises, thank you occasions etc.
Presumably, with the common availability of digital tools and software, there are individuals out there who want to burn some special information into a CD-R, and give them as presents. These CD-Rs also come in a nice packaging, making the item a great ready-to-personalise and ready-to-give gift.
The item is not cheap when you compare it to its plain counterparts. They are sold at $5.9 each while the usual CD-Rs usually average about $1 with normal packaging.
Nevertheless, a check with the shop owners revealed that the item is selling well. This proves one point, that people are willing to pay for nicely designed products. Something ordinary becomes designer ware when nice visuals are included, and they will fetch a premium.
The idea as well is creative. Guess it won’t be long before some corporate letterhead proponent starts advocating the importance of their own corporate branded CD-Rs.
