Gathering a promotional mailing list with style
Recently I was at this new attraction on the island of Sentosa trying out this new theme ride, the Sentosa Luge. Basically you take a ski-lift up to the top of a hill, get into this luge (a toy car that basically allows you to steer and brake), and whiz down the hill entirely reliant on the pulling force of gravity. At the end of the ride, there is a souvenir shop where you can buy a 4R photo printout of you in this hair raising experience for $10, or have the picture emailed to you at $5. Not considering the price, I thought what a novel idea! Imagine if you have the option to have the picture emailed to you for free? People will queue to leave their email addresses behind, and viola!, you will quickly accumulate a list of people who have tried your ride, enjoyed it, and will now be great word-of-mouth ambassadors for your attraction!
Do the same thing with your retail product. If you are selling ice cream, build a huge ice cream cone and invite your customers to take a picture with it. If you are selling beauty services, hire an artiste and invite your sales leads to take a picture with her. Then get their email addresses.
Take advantage of digital technology the next time you are thinking of a promotional gift or a marketing campaign. Opt-in marketing is not so hard after all.
