Vending Machine + Promotional Gift = Funds for charity?
Vending machines are huge in Japan, and the charities there know it. The Japanese Organisation for International Cooperation in Family Planning (JOICFP) have tied up with a drinks supplier to allow consumers to select a different button to commit their change to their cause whenever a drink is purchased. For that, they dispense a promotional white ribbon sticker together with the drinks, and funds are raised for the charity.
Maybe our non-profit organizations can consider doing the same here? It is very much like selling flags without the hassle of organizing a huge fund raising force. To make it even more appealing, a cheap promotional gift like a magnet button or a plastic pen can be dispensed together with the drinks. To fund the promotional gift, you can increase the cost of a can of Coke say from $1 to $1.5, or simply just find a sponsor. And get this story to the press, because I’m sure they will report on such an innovative way to fund raise.
