The red hat, purple dress revolution
The internet is a wonderful source for gift ideas and stories. I chanced upon this great one.
Somewhere in the states, there is this Red Hat Society, visually characterized with middle aged women dressed in red hats and purple clothing. Hardly the most apt dress sense for middle aged women, but they struck a chord amongst many. The outlandish attire epitomizes how these middle aged women are and want to embrace middle age with "verbe, humour and élan". Check out their website to see how good they actually look.
To me, this story illustrates the power of a good story tied together with the highly flexible media of promotional gifts (or corporate gifts).
1 person invites 2 friends with a red hat (the gift), a poem and a rationale behind all these. All 3 get excited. The 2 newly invited friends each invite another 2 each. That’s 7 excited people buying into the story. They continue and soon you have thousands of people celebrating the same cause. The red hat in hand, visually stunning in its resplendent red, and the story, drives thru a message that you just cannot forget.
I can’t wait to see people with a cause to promote try this in Singapore. Unleash the power of a promotional gift with good visuals and a compelling story.
